10 Million Pokémon Sun and Moon Units Shipped for Launch

In its effort to meet the potentially monstrous demand of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Nintendo has shipped more than 10 million units for tomorrow’s launch.

The company clearly expects strong sales for the upcoming 3DS titles and wants to ensure that every fan interested in purchasing a copy is able to do so with ease.

There are several good reasons to back the fact that Pokémon Sun and Moon are going to destroy launch sales figures held by any previous title in the series.

Firstly, the Pokémon brand is no stranger to mass hysteria. Secondly, Nintendo confirmed last month that Pokémon Sun and Moon pre-orders were the largest in the company’s history. Thirdly, Pokémon Moon was the most downloaded playable 3DS demo in Nintendo’s lifetime. Fourthly, the recent release of Pokémon Go created a craze that is only going to drive people towards the new mainstream Pokémon Sun and Moon games.

Additionally, Pokémon Go helped create a new fan-base. Those who previously were unfamiliar have suddenly grown to love the Pokémon world thanks to Niantic Labs’ mobile game. It goes without saying that many of them will be interested in acquiring a Nintendo 3DS for the new games.

Pokémon X and Y remains as the best-selling Nintendo 3DS game in history. However, those numbers might not last very long. As such, Pokémon Sun and Moon’s launch shipment is 1.5 times larger than Pokémon X and Y. That speaks volumes about who the company is confident in the games’ success.

We’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon series this year, with the first game debuting back in 1996. 2016 is turning out to be a very special year for the Pokémon crowd. Only recently we saw the Pokémon Go craze go viral across the planet. Tomorrow, we see Pokémon Sun and Moon mark the year off with potentially new milestones and achievements to boast.
