Just a day away from the official launch of the Google Pixel phones, Canadian Carriers Bell and Telus as well as UK Carrier Carphone Warehouse have released detailed ads for the new Google flagships. It’s unclear at this point whether it was intentional or just a leak but these things have been known to happen close to launch day like confirmation of iPhone 7 rumours by Ming-Chi Kuo a day prior to its launch.
This year has been filled with rumours regarding the new phones from Google. First they were code named the Nexus “Sailfish” and “Marlin”. And then there was a flood of new rumours and leaks basically confirming that the new phones would be branded “Pixel”. Well following weeks of leaks and renders, today the phones were leaked on official Carrier webpages. The ads leaked on Canadian Carriers Bell’s and Telus’ websites and then on UK Carrier Carphone Warehouse.
The phone ads are showing off all the new additions to the Google family like Google’s Allo chat app and the AI Assistant. Google’s version of Facetime, Duo is also shown as well as custom phone cases and fast charging through a USB-C port. The fast charger gets you 7 hours of charging in 15 minutes. WHAT?! There are two colours, the classic white and silver as well as the always popular black. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back by the looks of it.
The phones look a bit too familar to the design of the iPhone 4/4S. They feature the new Google Now side button on the homepage on Android Nougat 7.1. And surely enough, the Nexus branding has been removed and replaced with the new Google “G”. The leaks have also confirmed the rumoured specs.
Starting with the base model, the Pixel has a 5-inch screen with a 1080p HD display and a Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 2.15 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and the memory is expandable to 256 GB. The battery is 2,770 mAh and the phone weighs 143 g. The rear camera is 12 MP while the front is a 8 MP selfie snapper.
The big brother of the Pixel has a 5.5-inch screen with a 1440p, 2K display and a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 3,450 mAh battery. It’s basically the same as the pixel with a bigger screen.
These images and leaks are all unofficial so some of them may have been doctored, though they look pretty legit. Either way, some of this stuff
