Nexus Sailfish And Marlin: The Rumour Roundup

Most of you probably know by now that the upcoming Nexus smartphones are code named Sailfish and Marlin. I wouldn’t be mad if they kept those names to be honest. Leaked pictures and specs have been dropping all year round. The tech community is fairly sure what these beasts will look like, and they will be flagship material make no mistake. They will be quite similar in total but the Marlin will most likely be the high end smartphone of the duo. Here’s the rumour roundup:

The Nexus phones will feature pretty similar design; a full metal frame for the Marlin and a plastic one for the Sailfish with a glass back. In terms of colour there will also be similarities. Leaked pictures show a grey body with a black camera covering on the back. There will also be a fingerprint scanner on the back. The screens for the Marlin and Sailfish will be 5.5-inches and 5.2-inches respectively. Finally, the “Nexus” branding is rumoured to disappear this time and replaced with “Google” instead. According to Phone Arena, the phones won’t be modeled after the HTC 10 as previously thought.

Both phones will feature either the Snapdragon 820 or 821 processor (the latter probably going with the Marlin, the former with the Sailfish) and and Adreno 530 GPU with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Both phones will also have 13-megapixel rear cameras with 4K recording and 8-megapixel front cameras. The battery will weigh in at about 3,450 mAh for the Marlin and 3,000 mAh for the Sailfish.

Nexus devices are the flagship phones for Google so they will debut with Android 7.0 Nougat running out of the box. They might also get the Night Light feature that gives the display a blue light filter at predefined hours to make it slightly easier on the eyes. The settings might also get a dual tab user interface, with the main menu items being show in one tab and specific settings in the other.

Finally there’s a double tap to wake feature that will allow you to bring up the display without unlocking your phone.

There’s no confirmation on either front here but the rumours are that the Nexus phones will be releasing this September. The pricing for the last Nexus phones ranged between $379 to $649, starting from the 16 GB base model for the Nexus 5X and ending at the 128 GB model for the Nexus 6P.
